  2. Hello there, I wanted to let everyone know about my experience with the guys at DMS Wodonga and their street suspension. Being quite new to club sprint and circuit, having predominantly been involved in drifting for 13 years, I was looking to upgrade my HSD coil over kit for something better suited to racing. Being a local Albury boy I did my research and figured I wanted to spend my money locally with DMS. I noted that the brand is big in 4wd and off-road rally and came highly recommended. After the sales pitch about how their product is by far superior to competing offerings, I handed over $2100.00 for the Nissan S13 DMS street kit, I also had to supply my own top hats for front and rear. Once manufactured, the fronts went in without issue, although the ride height was hard to set as you have to keep winding preload into the spring to lift it. The rear is where the issues began, it would not fit on the first attempt. The body of the shock at the bottom mount hit the hub before even getting over the standard mounting pin. DMS had 2 attempts at correcting this before I had to get the car to the workshop for measure up After a few days I received a call, “Your roll centres are no good, you need uprights”. The DMS billet uprights were approximately 2k and as I was not prepared to spend 4k for the set, I bought the GKtech front and rear knuckles. A week later I got my car back and found that the rear knuckles had been modified to suit their coilover. The mounting pin had been moved and was a different size to standard S13 item. The coilover was now inverted with spring at bottom and damper control reservoir at the top. From here, this progressively got worse. I had to adjust the traction arm forward, so the coil didn’t hit the camber arm, and I needed 20mm spacers so my 18x10+20 rims didn’t hit the reservoir. After complaining I didn’t think this was right I was informed “I have put too many hours into this set up and that’s the way it has to be”. I did insist the mounting block at the bottom be extended 20mm to clear the rear upright, I got my way and they just managed to fit the rears the normal way. Ride height in the rear adjusted up and down by putting preload into keeper springs. There was so much droop the knuckles fouled on the suspension arms before the coilover was completely uncompressed - making life tough removing and fitting them to the car. Performance wise, my car was infinitely more difficult to drive - Understeered, oversteered, body roll it had it all. I made adjustments to ride height best I could, adjusted dampers, and still it handled poorly. My previous best at Winton was a 1:36.5 on second hand Nitto nt01 tyres. This was using HSD suspension and roll centres that measured underground. My new PB on the DMS set up was out at 1:44.4 on 1 session old Nitto nt01. I have now I ruined these tyres in 2 sessions, the suspension moving so much the tyres hit the guards and cut grooves into all 4 tyres to the wire. I contacted DMS to discuss further and after an exchange of words they agreed to come to the track and help with testing. In the mean time I installed an Air Conditioner into their show room for free, including materials (they paid cost for the unit) all in good faith and to prove that there hours trying to make this work didn’t go unnoticed. At the track we did damper adjustments, spring rate changes, camber adjustments, we took tyre pressures and temps and while the car did improve to a 1:37ish (timed on their phone) we are on a resurfaced track that people claim is 2-3 seconds faster - With that in mind, I’m still way off my first PB. We started with 275 pound springs in the back and 300 in the front and by end of the day we got to 500 pound springs in the rear and 550 in the front yet the car was still soft. Zip ties on the shock shaft are all the way to the top. I was not satisfied that I had spent my $2100 at the best shop and took them up on one of their previous offers to return the suspension and get a refund. Waiting a week, the refund was put into my account $300 dollars short of the total spend. When I asked why, they informed me that there is a re-stocking fee. I totally lost my cool with this decision which has led me to write this blog so others do not potentially encounter the same poor service and support that I’ve endured. To recap, I’m $300 down for a restocking fee, plus $800 down for a set of modified GKTECH rear knuckles that are good for nothing but their coilover’s, $700 down on materials and labour for the free split system install I did, and potentially $1400 for the nitto’s I ruined cutting grooves into them on the body work. That’s a total $3200 wasted, no suspension to show for it, and a PB that’s worse on a faster track. I should also add, this was over a 10 month period, so warranty period would have still applied. I feel that at the very least DMS should have a duty of care to make sure their parts are compatible with OEM components and should provide a performance benefit that warrants the purchase price and the claims. When that’s clearly not the case, more should be done to ensure customer satisfaction and in this case I have been left highly disappointed. Please do your homework before engaging DMS and hopefully you can avoid the same issues that I’ve encountered.

  12. I'm building a trackworthy s15 and looking for advice how to setup my suspension properly. My specs are: 8j 235/40/18 fronts, 9j 255/35/18 rears, tein 10k/8k coilovers, everything else in suspension is stock. Past year i ran slightly differnent setup - 215/45/18 and 235/40/18 on the same rims and an old coilver set. The car performed not so good on a track - it used to lift rear inner wheel while cornering and the rear was jumpy.
  13. Hi, I've spent MANY hours on the forums trying to determine what way forward with regards to what type of shock absorber I should get for my S14. A number of similar themes kept reoccurring in my search. One being that if you are able to afford Bilstein, do so. I have rung Bilstein's contact in Australia, and they have said they do not do a shock absorber for the S14/S15. I even gave them a part number that I found on the internet, but still no success. I've tried to find out if the rumours about 300sx and EVO Bilstein shocks fitting S14/15 are true, but unable to get certainty on that. I know that there is a Bilstein shock that fits the S14/15, - as SYDNEYKID a few years ago on the forums developed/made/sold a suspension kit for some Skylines and S13/S14/S15's. I've driven a few Silvias with these shocks and setups, and I felt they were quite good. A number of quality posters have recommended quality springs and shocks over coilovers to people in my situation. For my application, I agree. MY CAR: S14 ADM, was completely stock and 1 owner till when I bought it 3 years ago. POWER: stock turbo, basic powermods(FMIC, Walbro, 3", hiflow cat etc) 174rwkw CHASSIS: Quite a few custom chassis strengthing mods, including power brace, welded on fender braces, rear subframe brace etc etc, and strut brace. SUSPENSION/STEERING: S15 stock struts with stock but 35mm lower front springs (yes, cut..... I know). Solid rear subframe bushes, whiteline front swaybar. I also hade some custom castor/camber tops made to suit struts, NOT Coilovers. This being another reason wanting to stick with struts and not coilovers. The rollcentres and bumpsteer have been corrected close to stock after lowering. As it stands, I'm OK with the mild power, and the chassis/geometry changes make it easy and safe to drive. I just want to get rid of the somewhat floaty feel of the shocks, and help it stick better, but still having a compliant and gentle ride. (I sold my racecar to buy this car as a livable daily driver, spending a fair bit of time in the car each day). Keen to hear what shock/spring combos other people have used, and their reviews of them. I have had KONI shocks in my racecar, and when adjusted, where OK. But again haven't found info on this with regards to the S14/S15. Thanks in advance, Rob

  19. I recently have been told about GK Tech and to check out their products. They seem to have VERY reasonable prices for their parts and I am wondering if the quality of the products is as good as what they are? I’m looking at buying the new V3 - Full Suspension arm package that they are currently promoting and they do make it sound very good lol. Does anyone know how there products are in quality and reliability Appreciate any feedback on this

The coilovers have been sold through out Asia, America and Europe for over 10 years with a very positive response. Our coilovers are produced at our own workshop by qualified technicians, designers and quality control personnel. Some of the designing is now carried out by our very own team in Australia making the coilovers more suitable for the Australian market. In 2006 our company supported Danny Vahoumis "the godfather of drift" through sponsorship. Danny proved the durability of our products at the top level of Drift in Australia, collecting podium finishes along the way. In 2007 ISC supported the Wheelworx 3 car DA team consisting of Tom Monkhouse, Adam May and Linden Reynolds. Once again this demonstrated that our coilovers can perform at the highest level of motorsport, this was evident when Tom Monkhouse finished first at RD3 in Eastern Creek. Over time our products have become more popular, thus constantly updating our performance range in order to bring you the best quality products at an affordable price. Currently we are sponsoring Danie Prior in his 1.5JZ S13 silvia, In 2011 Daniel was very consistent qualifying at the top of the field in each round and also finished 2nd and 4th outright in 2 rounds. For the first round of G1 in 2013 Daniel qualified 1st and finished in 3rd place! The silvia currently competes in the SA G1 series, Superdrift and the SA round of ADGP. Another car we are currently sponsoring is the ISC Time Attack S14, this car has the whole ISC suspension package including ISC parts such as radiator, intercooler etc. The car has competed in 5 local Time Attack events finishing 2nd,1st,1st,2nd,2nd in RWD OPEN Class, the car also travelled to Winton for the 2011 SAUNATS and took out 2nd place in open class (first time on the track). ISC Australia has just released new thrust bearing kits for its range of N1 coilovers. These kits are manufactured in Australia, using high quality Japanese bearings. The addition of the bearing kit to your coilovers will add faster and smoother steering response, and allows better spring compression. Another huge bonus is that it takes a lot of stress away from the pillowball giving it a longer life. Kits are available for purchase with N1 coilovers for an additional $100 (below cost price) or can be purchased seperately for $99 a pair.
  21. I am trying to sort out my s14's suspension before i go in for a full alignment, so am in the market for some camber and toe arms. The car is primarily a daily (90% street / 10% track). Currently i only have Greddy coilovers all round and a strut brace. Was really liking the gktech products but they are sold out till the version 3 gear comes out after July. However they still have s13 toe arms instock at clearance prices and if i am able to make it work id like to grab one while their available. From my limited knowledge i though s13 and s14 toe arm were the same as ive had friends say they've used s14 arms on their s13. Can someone please tell me i am able to make these work for my s14? From the site says there is a 5mm difference in the rose joint insert, am i able to drill this out to fit or something? or possibly purchase different inserts from somewhere to use? im assuming they are just press fit http://www.gktech.co...-late-july.html Also can anyone point me in the direction of sub $200, decent quality camber arms. From previous threads i've read kkr and isc are under par but unsure if they have improved in quality. Also seen Hard Race available at a few shops including justjap. Decent?

  23. OK so I have worked out what wheels and springs I’m getting (starting out with basic mods first) Wheels F: 18x8.5 +16 R: 18x9.5 +24 Work s1 3p Meister Coilovers: Silk Road RM/A8 I eventually plan on working my way up to some performance mods but I’m going to take is slow so I can appreciate the s15 at every stage of the build. Aiming for 200-240ish rwkw in the end. Primarily street driven, weekender, only sees a track maybe 2-3 times a year. What I’m unsure of is when would/should I be upgrading the suspension arms? There are adjustable arms for caster, toe, camber, upper/lower control arms etc.. I don’t want to just throw money at the car for no reason, I want to be sure that the mods I’m doing have purpose. So, when would I need to upgrade these components? Thanks guys and girls. Cheers.
