Hilux revs too high

Recommended Posts

Little annoyed at the hilux I bought as it tends to sit around 3,000 rpm when cruising distances at 100km/hr.

It's a 5-speed manual so I'm assuming/relating the problem to the diff ratio's.

So the question is, how do I go about gettin some lower diff gears?

Any other models that i can get them from that'll fit mine.??

Is a 98 SR-5 3.0 diesel 4x4

30's mate on a 15 inch rim.

Looking to go a 31/33 soon on a wider rim, would like some more clearance as the running boards get close sometimes and has hooked up once.

Throw on some 33's, you wont wanna go with lower ratios after trying to drive with them

Cheers, was hoping I'd get a reply like that

I want bigger Tyres for a couple reasons and if I can bring the revs down noticeably at crusing speed with a bigger rolling diameter i will leave it.

I don't know what the current diff ratio is in numbers, but if it's too big a drop I can imagine it being a slug to get moving on bigger rubber especially with the load it carries + towing.

I guess the next problem is most 33's favor off road applications where as the car will only see dirt n sand 1 a month or so.

Can anyone recommend a bigger tyre that still gets half decent Tarmac life/grip.??
